2K Games to reveal next iteration of its ‘biggest and most beloved’ franchises on June 7

It was announced at Summer Game Fest on June 7 that 2K Games will reveal the next iteration of its ‘biggest and most beloved’ franchise.

Presumably, the ad isn’t related to a publisher’s annual releases like WWE or the NBA. Instead, the game is strongly believed to be related to the Borderlands series.

Earlier this year, Gearbox had already announced that Borderlands 4 was in “active development,” something that had been in development for several years. In March 2021, Randy Pitchford said they (Gearbox) are working on ‘big’ when it comes to the Borderlands series. This suggests that the game has been in development for at least three years.

Other than Borderlands, other franchises that fit this category would be Mafia or BioShock.

By 2023, Take-Two reported that Borderlands 3, its last major Borderlands title, had sold 18 million copies and grossed more than $1 billion.

Along with the Borderlands games, the series will also have its own ‘cinematic universe’, which will kickstart with the Borderlands movie, which will be released on August 9, 2024.
