In a surprise announcement posted on Twitter, Activision Blizzard talked about ‘building anticipation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’ and dove into an update on Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision.

After that deal closes, Activision Blizzard has explained that Activision “expects” it will begin adding its games to the Game Pass subscription service “sometime next year.” It’s unclear which titles will be added to Game Pass first, but it’s a fair assumption that the collection of Call of Duty titles will be closed on the service.

Activision games are coming to Game Pass

It was always expected that Activision Blizzard’s titles would make their way to the Game Pass subscription with the success of Microsoft’s acquisition, but this is one step closer to a full confirmation of the suite of games that will be made available.

Here is the announcement It was posted on:

The anticipation for Call of Duty ®: Modern Warfare ® III has been fantastic. As we continue to work towards regulatory approval of the Microsoft deal, we’ve been getting some questions about whether our upcoming and recently launched games will be available through Game Pass.

While we don’t have plans to put Modern Warfare ® III or Diablo IV on Game Pass this year, once the deal closes, we plan to begin working with Xbox to bring our titles to more players around the world. And we’ll start adding games to Game Pass sometime next year.

With the acquisition deal expected to close within days, it’s great news for Xbox fans around the world – Game Pass is about to get a massive injection of subscription games – but this year, Modern Warfare III and Diablo IV won’t be among them.
