Dan Hauser’s studio is developing a third-person open-world game

Last year, Dan Houser’s studio – Absurd Ventures – was revealed to be working on multimedia projects that include audio drama and graphic novels. Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar Games, parted ways with the Grand Theft Auto creator in 2020, announcing his new venture shortly after.

Now, in a job listing, it’s indicated that Absurd Ventures is working on a third-person, open-world action-adventure game.

Does that ring any bells?

in Job List Digging into Absurd Ventures’ website, it was revealed that the company is working on an open-world action-adventure game. This is the basic description of Grand Theft Auto, which suggests that Dan Houser is trying to compete with his former company in at least some way. Here is an extract from the list:

Be the primary vision holder and hands-on contributor for character, controls and camera design in an open world action-adventure game. The person in this role leads a multi-disciplinary team of experts to deliver best-in-class combat and third-person action across multiple game modes.

A suitable applicant should have experience designing combat for an action game, as well as experience developing both melee and shooting action mechanics, the listing request continues. Houser isn’t alone as a former Rockstar developer at Absurd Ventures – he’s recently joined by the infamous Lazlo Jones, who many will recognize from the in-game radio stations he spent years voicing the character of the same name.

It’s unlikely that Absurd Ventures will be working on something that rivals Grand Theft Auto , but it could be another solid entry into a genre that’s been a little wobbly of late. It was recently revealed that Saints Row (2022) only sold 1.7 million copies before Volition was shut down.
