Does God of War Ragnarok require a PSN account? – Answered

You may have seen the recent announcement from PlayStation State of Play about the PC launch of God of War Ragnarok. We all knew it was coming. Following the enormous success of the previous title on Steam, it was only a matter of time before Sony wised up. But there is a caveat. Does God of War Ragnarok require a PSN account?

Do you need PSN to play God of War Ragnarok on PC?

Unfortunately, to play God of War Ragnarok on PC, you need a PSN account and login. It’s very unfortunate that there are only about 70 countries supported by PSN. Without PSN support, there are over 120 that simply cannot buy or play a game on Steam.

Sony is alienating its countless fans around the world, preventing them from enjoying what is considered one of the most cinematic action adventures in gaming today. We hope they reverse this decision, but it’s unlikely. Despite the massive turnout of the community, many countries are still unable to purchase or play Helldivers 2.

God of War Ragnarok multiplayer or single player?

Despite the always online requirements and PSN, God of War Ragnarok is not a multiplayer game. It has no cooperative game mode, leaderboards or competitive PvP in any way, shape or form. It’s a purely single-player adventure.

Sony continues to increase its PSN requirements on PC players as it wants to bring everyone into its ecosystem. In God of War Ragnarok, PSN is “required” because of the trophies and PlayStation Overlay.

We’re not exactly thrilled about PSN’s take on action-adventure, but there are more upcoming games to watch this summer. Don’t miss a beat by signing up for the official Insider Gaming newsletter!
