Embracer Group says it alone failed to meet expectations in the dark

Alone in the Dark reboot failed to meet expectations after its March 2024 release, Embracer Group said. This statement came out as a part of that The company’s latest earnings report Released on Thursday.

The reboot of the 1990s classic franchise had a “smoother-than-expected performance,” the company said. Despite seeing “positive reception from consumers”, the game, along with Outcast: A New Beginning, “had a mixed reception from critics and ultimately performed below management’s expectations”, they added.

This performance can be viewed as negative for Embracer to have layoffs a month after the launch of developer Pieces Interactive. As of writing, Embracer Group has yet to comment publicly on the layoffs. However, around the same time as the layoffs, the studio announced that it was ready to split into three separate companies.

In his review of the game, Insider Gaming’s Grant Taylor-Hill said he did not feel he could “credibly argue for buying Alone in the Dark at full price”.

He added: “It’s not TerribleBut there is something lacking that doesn’t allow the player to feel satisfaction at any point throughout the story.
