In April, the nearly ten-year-old post-apocalyptic title became the best-selling game in the United Kingdom, according to the most recent data. That’s right, Fallout 4 skyrocketed the charts and beat the likes of EA Sports FC 24, Helldivers 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5 effortlessly.

Fallout 76 and Fallout: New Vegas, Bethesda Game Studios’ MMORPG, and Obsidian’s legendary open-world title made it into the top ten after similar explosions in popularity last month.

Nuclear acceleration

On April 10, the Fallout television show was released on Amazon Prime Video to overwhelmingly positive reception. It was labeled as the best live-action adaptation by many critics, even surpassing the Emmy Award-winning series, The Last of Us. This caused a Fallout-themed frenzy when Amazon and Bethesda simultaneously dropped each episode, with player counts soaring across the board.

Fallout 76 experienced an all-time high, Fallout 4 punched the charts — aided by the next-gen update — and retro titles from the first Fallout game through Fallout: New Vegas all experienced monumental booms.

In the breakdown Posted by GamesIndustry.biz, it was revealed that Fallout 4 was up in sales, becoming the best-selling game in the United Kingdom (and many other markets) in April. Of the 2.23 million games sold in April 2024, the majority of them were Fallout-themed. It’s not shown in the data provided, but Fallout 3 took eleventh place, missing out on Bethesda Game Studios’ flagship franchise that dominates the British Isles.

In recent weeks, several Fallout-themed topics have come to light, including a story that Microsoft is interested in getting a new Fallout game out as soon as possible. It’s going to be tough as Bethesda Game Studios is tied up with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 – so maybe Fallout will be handed over to another studio to deliver?
