GTA 5 DLC about Trevor was canceled due to GTA Online

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 has been released for over a decade, but players have not received any kind of single-player DLC during its lifetime. While we know there are reportedly plans for eight DLCs, the one centered around Trevor has been scrapped due to GTA Online being a powerhouse.

In an interview with YouTuber SanInPlayFormer Rockstar developer Joseph Rubino on the canceled Trevor DLC for GTA 5 and why it never saw the light of day.

“We split our teams in two, so I stayed on GTA Online and this DLC — Steven Ogg was a very important part — and then some of the team overlapped and went early on (Red Dead Redemption 2),” Rubino said.

As for the DLC’s content, Rubino said he believes most of the planned and developed content will eventually make its way into GTA Online. He couldn’t recall any specifics of what made it, but believed they did. The DLC is also supposed to feature Trevor as some sort of secret agent.

Rubino said that the reason why the DLC didn’t happen had to do with the money GTA Online was making off the bat.

“When GTA Online came out, it was such a cash cow and people loved it so much that it’s hard to make an argument that standalone DLC can compete with it,” he said. “Looking back now I’d say you probably could have done both, but that was a business decision they made and I’m a little upset about it.”

He added that about half of the content was completed before it stopped developing.
