Hasbro wants another Baldur’s Gate game, but not the Larian developer

In a new interview, Hasbro’s CEO, Hasbro and Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Licensing for Wizards of the Coast said they are currently looking at partners for its next Baldur’s Gate game.

In an interview with PCGamerEvans said, “We’re talking to a lot of partners right now and approaching a lot of partners who will take on the challenge, what does the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise look like?”

He continued, ” “So we certainly hope it’s not another 25 years from Baldur’s Gate 2 to 3 before we answer that. But we’re going to take our time and find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that represents the future of Baldur’s Gate. As we do with all of our decisions around our portfolio, we take it very seriously. We don’t rush who to partner with on products or what products we consider.

In March 2023, Laurion Studios’ Sven Vincke took the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, saying that Laurion would be ‘walking away from Dungeons & Dragons completely’ and not releasing any expansions or core content for Baldur’s Gate 3. – and Baldur’s Gate 4 is definitely not happening.

Just last week, the actors from Baldur’s Gate 3 expressed interest in the sequel. Among such actors is Newbone, who played the iconic rogue Astarion, a role he said he would particularly like to reprise. “I feel like I’m not done with him,” they explained, and continued, “I hope to get him back at some point.”

The future for Baldur’s Gate is uncertain anyway, but it looks like we’ll be getting one at some point in the future – the question, though – is who do you want to develop it?
