Where were you when Grand Theft Auto V hit store shelves? The initial launch in 2013 was one of the most hyped video game releases at the time. It brought out the crowds for its midnight release at GameStop, which was still a thing back then. Here we are waiting for the next title, but more than a decade later. So, how long has GTA 6 been in development?

When did GTA 6 development begin?

It was revealed a few years ago Development of GTA 6 began in 2014, a year after the launch of GTA V and GTA Online. However, unlike past titles, Rockstar Games intends to tread carefully with its upcoming Grand Theft Auto storyline. It wants to avoid trampling down the underdogs through the series’ longstanding trend of occasionally harsh jokes.

We’ll see some major overhauls to Grand Theft Auto Online with Grand Theft Auto VI, although nothing about the multiplayer component has been confirmed yet. Every GTA since Grand Theft Auto IV has had some form of multiplayer over the past decade, from the small lobbies of Liberty City to the massive scale of GTA Online. Hey, maybe they’ll go full MMO?!

Who are the main characters in GTA 6?

We know that there are two main characters in the game: Lucia And Jason. We’ve seen a lot of Lucia, the Latina criminal who plays the lead role in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game. Jason, on the other hand, appears less frequently in marketing materials. He can deliver the old-school GTA experience that most players are used to.

Also, unfortunately, there is no indication that we will see Michael De Santa, Franklin or Trevor in Grand Theft Auto 6. None of the previous three protagonists appear in the trailer, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. I can see Michael or Franklin showing up in Leonidas to turn the heat down in San Andreas.

We’ve got a long way to go until GTA 6’s release date, so why not join Insider Gaming as we cover the hottest new and upcoming releases:
