Crytek recently revealed that an upcoming upgrade by Crytek – the engine used to build Hunt: Showdown – will take the extraction shooter offline on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting August 15, 2024. After this update is applied, the game won’t even load on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles – but it’s not all bad news.

Upgrade for free

Those affected by the shutdown will be able to update to the next-gen version of Hunt: Showdown for free, Crytek revealed. In a video posted online to celebrate the upcoming upgrade, player accounts and all entitlements for Hunt: Showdown easily port the older version of the game:

Your player accounts and entitlements for Hunt: Showdown and all related DLC will carry over to the new version at no additional cost when you’re ready to make a hardware transition.

The arrival of CryEngine 5.11 promises to usher in a ‘new era’ of Hunt: Showdown over the summer. For this ‘new generation’ of Hunt: Showdown, the team is hard at work on the game’s anti-cheat system, new user interface, recruitment and prestige system, and tweaks to the game’s hunter mechanics.

There is an inbound overhaul for the game’s main map, which will include new locations and fresh threats – but only in the next-gen version of the game.
