Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leak teases the return of an iconic boss early on

The main points of the story

  • A new leak for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hints at players taking on Sandman early in the game, perhaps this time is the opening.
  • Miles has gotten significantly stronger, being able to leap as high as Peter with a charged jump. It also has a swing animation that looks like climbing a web line.
  • The transition seems to have improved, as online swinging seems to require a greater degree of control and skill to avoid collisions and breaks in momentum.

A new leak for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has surfaced, hinting at players facing off against one of Spidey’s legendary foes, the Sandman, early in the game. The details come from a couple of clips posted on Imgur, which show the two Spider-Men swinging around the expanded New York.

This is a good game Insomniac

While the leak doesn’t contain any major spoilers, the clip shows Peter talking to himself as he maneuvers around the map. Impeccably expressing his current state, he states, “My suit is sandy in all the wrong places. Maybe it’s time for a change.“Under normal circumstances, this dialogue would feel unusual, but due to hints from the first game and subsequent leaks, we can assume that Sandman may be the opening act of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

And that’s not all this leak is about. Another interesting tidbit here is how much Miles Morales has grown since the events of Spider-Man PS4 and his standalone adventure. Despite training under Peter all along The city that never sleeps DLC and the months leading up to the events of his game, Morales couldn’t jump as high as Peter when he used the max power charge jump.

The first clip shows how this has changed, with Miles now able to scale modestly sized buildings with just one jump. It is often said that Spider-Man (Peter) was astronomically strong for a 15-year-old and age would only take him higher. While this may seem unusual from a gameplay perspective, perhaps Insomniac was trying to describe this with Miles by using Charged Jump as an example.

Another thing worth talking about is one of the web swinging animations in the first clip. Towards the end of the footage, Miles does something mid-swing that looks very familiar to one of the swinging meter animations in the first two games. Furthermore, it looks like Miles used his webline to climb up, a mechanic we had in Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man. It could just be me reading too much into things or maybe Insomniac will finally succeed on that front as well.

Finally, the transition seems to have gotten even better. Earlier this year, we got our first look at the gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It featured a cool web sling mechanic, which allowed us to gain tremendous speed. While the locations where you can perform this move were limited at first, you can now do it from any point as long as you are on solid ground. Web swing in general seems more challenging because it requires more control to avoid collision and momentum breaks.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch on October 20, 2023, exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation 5.
