Nintendo Announced to buy Shiver Entertainment is the studio that ported games like Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to the console. Nintendo is buying 100% of the outstanding shares from the Embracer Group.

Miami-based Shiver will now be a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo.

“By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure top-level resources for porting and developing software titles,” Nintendo said in a press release.

“Going forward, Shiver’s focus will remain the same, even after it becomes part of the Nintendo group, to continue to commission and develop software for multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.”

Shiver’s purchase is Nintendo’s first studio acquisition since it acquired Luigi’s Mansion 3 developer Next Level Games in 2021.

“The acquisition will be completed pending the satisfaction of all relevant customary closing conditions,” Nintendo said. It said the acquisition would have “only a minor impact” on the company’s financial outlook for the year.
