Nintendo will reveal the Switch’s successor this fiscal year

May 7, 2024 by No Comments

In a short update posted on Twitter, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, confirmed that the company will reveal the successor to the Nintendo Switch this fiscal year. The reveal comes nine years after the Nintendo Switch was announced in 2015.

Almost there

‘Switch 2’ has been one of the most talked about topics in gaming for months. Countless leaks and rumors have surfaced, but so far, nothing has been set in concrete with Nintendo playing its cards very close to its chest. Recent rumors have suggested that the console will be backwards compatible and will be able to output 4K resolution through the LCD screen – No OLED screen from scratch.

Here’s what Furukawa had to say about the upcoming announcement on Twitter:

This is Nintendo President Furukawa. We will be announcing a successor to the Switch this fiscal year for the first time in nine years since we announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015. The second half of 2024, but it will not include a successor model. Please don’t misunderstand.

That means it could be March 2025 before the Nintendo Switch successor is revealed, but I doubt it will take that long. The upcoming Nintendo Direct in June isn’t the platform for the console reveal.
