Palworld’s latest update adds a new island – Sakurajima – with a range of new pals, enemies and items. It’s the most significant update the game has received since its release in January 2024, and it’s surged in popularity with player counts booming across all platforms.

Using Steam as a representative example, we can confirm that Paulworld’s player count has increased by more than 700%. This is up from a peak concurrent user count of around 15,000 before the update. More than 130,000 Once the update is dropped.

It may have seen a sudden increase in players, but Paulworld will not be restored to what it once was. Back in January, when the Palworld hype train was in full flow, the game reached 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam, topping the leaderboard for most-played game on the platform. It was an overnight sensation driven by the ‘Pokemon with Guns’ trope that pulled in a lot of users.

Things have been pretty quiet for Palworld since then, but this latest update has brought things down a bit.

According to the game’s developer, Pocket Pair, there’s plenty more on the horizon. Coming later this year is the Arena mode, which will see players battle other users just like in a traditional Pokemon battle. Since this is Paulworld, it’s mixed with assault rifles and grenades.
