Phil Spencer addresses Xbox handheld console rumors

Microsoft held its annual Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday afternoon, and with it came the announcement of three new series of consoles, showcasing 30 games. However, the most rumored Xbox handheld is what the company is working on. In an interview with IGNXbox head Phil Spencer talked about the lack of announcement and where things stand.

“The future is very bright for us in hardware,” Spencer told the outlet. “The work the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play, I’m really excited.

“Today is about games… but we’ll have time to come out and talk more about the platform and we can’t wait to bring it to you.”

Spencer was asked if this new handheld will be a cloud-only system or if it will be for local installations and gameplay. Spencer added that playing games natively on handhelds is “really important”.

There is no timetable on when this rumored Xbox handheld console will happen. However, with Spencer not denying its existence, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before gamers get more concrete on that front.
