In a recent video published by Sega, the team working on the new Crazy Taxi game talked about pivoting from a core single-player experience to an online multiplayer game built around a vast open-world environment. In the seven-minute breakdown, we were treated to a glimpse of the developing title, which showcased several game modes, vehicles, and some powerful and punchy visuals.

The team explained that they’ve had some difficulties pivoting from a single-player experience to a live-service multiplayer model, but they’re making great progress in the development process as we speak.

In the video (which you can watch below), Sega’s Sapporo studio talks at length about the city, stressing that it was designed with realism and freedom in mind, giving players plenty of activities to explore. A theme park-like atmosphere’.

In the trailer, there are shots of police chases, stunt-based modes and simple quests where other players zip around the world doing their tasks at the same time. The Sega team explained that car design and customization would also be a thing, and there were shots of artists working on character models, suggesting that players would be able to travel on foot.

Ultimately, the video is a recruitment campaign, with various teams working on the game – from art to level design – talking about what they do and how they interact with this evolving game. As the video drew to a close, the head of the studio asked interested parties to apply for a job at Sega.
