Square Enix may have a few announcements to make at the Xbox Showcase, and the Final Fantasy 9 remake may be one of them.

A trusted tipster, Midori recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to keep fans informed of Square Enix’s next plans. It looks like the Final Fantasy developer will be a part of the upcoming Xbox Showcase scheduled for June 9. Square Enix will reportedly attend the event with information on their upcoming titles. This is exciting news as fans wonder what’s next for Square Enix and Xbox after the previous multiplatform push announcement.

Earlier in the same thread, the Midori Final Fantasy 9 remake is still in development. The title was reportedly not canceled and “outsourced to another developer” because Square Enix was not satisfied with the progress. Midori added that the development of this title is “very far along” and that the game will arrive before the end of the fiscal year, however, they are not sure. Final Fantasy 9 is a game planned for multiple platforms and may be shown at the Xbox Showcase, but players shouldn’t get their hopes up too high.

Furthermore, Midori was also talked about Kingdom Hearts 4 will not be part of the event. According to them, information about Square Enix’s collaboration with Fortnite and more details on the missing link will arrive before the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4. For now, it’s believed that Square Enix will expand on their upcoming RPG, Octopath Traveler II, at the event. Players suspect that Final Fantasy 16 may also get a multiplatform announcement for Xbox consoles. However, we’ll have to wait until the Xbox Showcase to find out for sure.
