Firefly Studios has filed a new trademark titled Stronghold: The Dark Ages, which may hint at the next title for the next installment in the series.

The trademark was first noticed Response firstIt was filed on April 8, 2024 and is currently in the ‘”trial” stage.

If you thought ‘The Dark Ages’ sounded familiar, you’re right, last week Insider Gaming exclusively reported that the next Doom game will be called ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’. Our reporting (and the upcoming reveal of the next Doom game) suggests that the title is likely to be rejected.

However, the filing tells us that the next Stronghold game will almost certainly be set in the ‘Dark Ages’ that began after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

The next Stronghold game will mark FireFly Studios’ first major new release after the studio’s acquisition by Devolver Digital in 2021. Currently, FireFly Studios is focusing on the post-launch content of Stronghold: Definitive Edition, which will be released in November 2023. ‘Overwhelmingly positive’ reviews on Steam based on 6400 reviews at time of writing.
