No one knows what’s going to happen in season four of The Witcher, the popular live-action adaptation of the game series of the same name, but it’s shaping up to be something special. In the last episode of the third season, fans of the franchise said goodbye to Henry Cavill, who vacated the role of Geralt of Rivia after playing him brilliantly since 2019. He was replaced by Liam Hemsworth in season four, but thanks to recent casting information, we now know that Hemsworth will be accompanied by some heavy hitters.

Unusual casting

It was originally written by Sharlto Copley (District 9, Chappie) will be essaying the role of Leo Bonhart, a skilled swordsman and bounty hunter. Copley is one of the world’s most instantly recognizable South African actors and has shared the screen with some of the biggest names in the business over the past two decades.

Later, James Purefoy was given a substantial role (Resident Evil, Churchill) in the form of Stefan Skellen, a cunning and secretive Nilfgaardian spy. Purefoy has more than thirty years of acting credits to back up his claim to such a prominent role, and he’s sure to put on a show.

Finally, Danny Woodburn (TMNT, Seinfeld) brought on board to play Zoltan Chivay, who fans will easily recognize as Geralt’s close friend and strongest companion from the games.

In addition to these roles, Laurence Fishburne plays Regis, a troubled vampire who has a significant presence in The Witcher.

It’s still unclear how the showrunners will tackle Henry Cavill’s apparent replacement for Geralt — if they want to — so it will be interesting to see how the first trailers for Season 4 unfold.
