Zotac Zone: Another handheld gaming device has appeared

June 5, 2024 by No Comments

That’s right – there is another. In a series of leaked images from Computex 2024, another handheld gaming device has been showcased – the ZOTAC ZONE. From ZOTAC Gaming, the ZONE is another Windows-based device with substantial specifications packed into a 120 Hz OLED screen, but it’s the latest in a growing long line of devices aimed at the growing handheld gaming market.

Another one

During Computex 2024, the ZOTAC ZONE was shown, but the device didn’t look ‘good enough’ to compete with the likes of the MSI Claw – which is undergoing a mid-gen refresh – or the ASUS ROG Ally. An upgraded model that will hit the market very soon.

However, the specifications cannot be compromised. The ZOTAC Zone’s 7-inch AMOLED display pulls 800 nits and sits atop a Ryzen 7 8840U processor with integrated Radeon 780M graphics. It’s not terrible, but it only has 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory, which means it’s already beaten by the ROG Ally X. It also has a ‘minimum’ 512 GB of storage, while the upgraded ASUS ROG handheld has a capacity of 1 TB.

And yet, the ZOTAC ZONE’s 48.5 Wh battery is nowhere near as powerful as the new battery found in the ASUS ROG Ally X, which has been bumped up to 80 Wh to account for the deficit in the original model. The ZOTAC ZONE is claimed to retail for around $799 when it’s released in September 2024, but it’s entering a saturated market and isn’t even better than its closest competitors, so only time will tell how it performs.
